Video Premiere: Post-Pop Duo Ohtwo Releases Music Video for "...And Then Run"

Moonrise Magazine is proud to premiere the new music video by American post-pop duo, Ohtwo, for their song, “…And Then Run.” Founded in Orlando, Florida in 2017, the duo consists of sound producer BYSON (based in Ocoee, Florida) and frontman and lyricist Faust (based in Los Angeles), who together have forged a unique sound in the alternative underground scene through their incorporation of post-punk and trap elements.

“…And Then Run,” a song off of their most recent album (A Time to Be So Small, 2020), features a lo-fi, airy guitar instrumental throughout the song, feels potent but fleeting — reflecting the name of the track. Throughout the two-minute long number, Faust repeatedly sings and closes out the song with “Get the best of it all… and then run,” offering a moment of melancholic and somber reflection.

The music video, shot and directed in part by Los Angeles street photographer Matthew Grant Anson, features urban landscapes in greyscale, with orange and red colors highlighted throughout. Faust shared, “We wanted to grasp the somber feelings of Los Angeles in the early sunset, and how there's a great nostalgia and fondness for things like that which flower in decay. But our L.A. is sort of standing perfectly still in time, like some old god's final resting place. When I left L.A., I ran from it, and that's part of the motivation for the song.”

The color scheme of the video specifically is a nod to the album cover and media for A Time to Be So Small, influenced by post-punk aesthetic. Faust notes that they drew inspiration from how Franz Ferdinand and Interpol used “propaganda" art, or how Blue Note jazz albums always have a color theme. He added, “The orange is something I use as a way to capture the perspective of someone who is constantly haunted by something everywhere they look. That thing persists in the foreground of the mind, and everything else becomes stale.”

The video certainly reflects the melancholia and nostalgia intended by the artists, and the instrumentals of the song reiterate these same moods. Faust shared that the song lyrics were conceived a year before the album was started, and it came together with the right track. He shared, “My friend Christoph, from Glendale, CA, sent me the guitar recording and that was the base for everything else in the song to be built on in the studio. It was definitely a good way to tie up the feelings from the whole album in a neat bow.”

We couldn’t agree more, Faust! Be sure to check out the new video, and follow Ohtwo on Spotify, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Bandcamp, and Twitter

We’d like to thank Faust for taking the time to speak with us for this video premiere and for allowing Moonrise Magazine the pleasure of premiering the new video.
